Up and coming events!

January - opens with our new topic of people who help us. Children will be learning about the people in their community such as police officers, Doctors and nurse's, dentist, librarians. We will be taking trips out and visiting our Longlevens community to help develop  the children's knowledge and understanding of the world. We will also be looking at Chinese new Year and exploring different traditions within our world.

February - Will see us learning about things that grow. The children will be planting and investigating where things grow and what they need to grow. You can help support your child at home by planting some seeds and caring for them until they grow. We would love to see what you have grown at home.A nice idea would to be use cress which is very fast growing and will grow on kitchen roll or even cotton wool.there are some lovely ideas on the Cbeebies website on Mr Blooms page.

We will also be celebrating Sant Patrick's Day, Hungarian day, Mothers day and Sports relief. Individual letters for sport relief will follow.

Our Nursery Aims

This year we will be focusing on gathering yours and your child's thoughts about Nursery. We will be sending questionnaires out in January to gather your feed back then in February use the responses to create some new nursery aims. Your feed back is important to us as we want to be the best that we can be for your children.

The questionnaires can be anonymous or you can pop your name on. They can be handed to your child's key person or put in the post box. I will feed back our convulsions in the next news letter.

Our next Nursery Aim to focus on is to

Improve Children's speech and Language development.

From our nursery cohort tracking of children's development along with the Governments national findings of the decrease in children's speech and language we will be focusing highly on this area.

We have had a discussion in our Staff meeting about the activities and teaching we offer all children and all staff have had questionnaires to check their confidence in this area. We have our own Communication and Language lead here at Longlevens who is Vicki Stephens from our 2-3's group. Vicki along with myself will be analising the data and working with the governments new scheme to improve children Language called " Hungry Little Minds."   Watch this space!!!

To focus on quality teaching.

This year we will striving to improve the quality of teaching we provide the children. We aim to do this by sending our staff on more training courses.

Already some staff have been on a outdoor training course which has been very inspirational too them and staff are updating their pediatric first aid in February.

We also have some quality teaching inhouse training  planned for staff and we will be sending staff off to other settling to increase their teaching knowledge.

To Develop our outdoor provision.

We are currently brainstorming as a whole nursery and observing children to work out what other areas we can implement for the children outdoors.

We would love your ideas too:)

Our preschool construction area has been started and now with the weather warming up we can crack on with it.

Just a reminder we do go out doors in all weathers so during this cold period please call all age groups bring appropriate clothes for the weather.

We do ask that all hats and gloves are named as it is difficult or  Practitioners to identify children's items without this.

Staff News

We seem to be having a baby boom here at Chestnuts within our Practitioners.

Kate form our 2-3's/preschool has now started her Maternity leave and we wait eagerly to hear of the arrival of her little girl soon.

Emily from our preschool is due her second baby in March, so will be leaving to start her maternity leave the end of February. We have already recruited a lovely Early Years Educator called Sophie who is level 3 qualified with 6 years experience of nurseries and is also a mummy too. Sophie will be starting with us two weeks before Emily Leaves so there will be a cross over of staff so Emily can pass on all information about her key children. Please say Hello to Sophie and feel free to have a chat.

We also need to say a huge congratulations to Vicky Ashworth from preschool who is also expecting her second baby in August! We are now busy recruiting for Vicky's  Maternity cover replacement and will keep you up dated when we find the right Early Years Practitioner.

Hugh Congratulations to Chantelle and Sophie for completing their level 3 in childcare and Education.

Chantelle is now working full time in our 2-3's and Sophie will remain in Our preschool picking up full time from March.

We welcome Pearl and Sam to our team as our new Nursery apprentices. Sam will be based in our 1-2's group and Pearl will float between groups working mornings and helping Charlotte in the bungalow breakfast club.

We also welcome Emma who has been off poorly since November back to our 1-2's team. Emma will be returning back to us part time and gradually working back up to full time. Its lovely to have you back Emma. Apologies to parents if Emma was your child's key person. This was unexpected and we worked hard to make sure we covered Emma consistently with Pearl to keep continuity for the children. Thank you for your patience during this time.
