Happy New Year!

We hope you all had a nice Christmas and enjoyed some family time.

Our children had such a wonderful time over Christmas making you gifts and cards. The children also enjoyed a lot of festive visitors and activities.

We had a visit from the big man himself ' Santa', we also had a visit from Princess Ariel, Black rock reptiles,and Magic Marie.

Our baby unit enjoyed a disco dome ball pool and all enjoyed our Christmas party days.

Thank you to all the parents who helped out at our annual Carol Concert at the church. The children really did us proud this year. They are so little and they sang beautifully. For the majority of children there next Christmas Concert will be at school.

School entry September 2019

Hopefully Parents who have children starting school in September have put in their school choices in now. The dead line was 15th January 2019.

Our preschool, staff have been busy assessing the preschool children using their observations and any you have uploaded to tapestry to create a development report and next steps. These reports will be shared with Preschool parents at the parent consultations in January and February. Letters have gone out for the January consultations and the February ones will follow.

Chestnuts Library

Don't forget we have a lovely little collection of books over in our main house under the stairs for all ages, for you to take home to read to your child.It has be nationally recognised that children are going into school with speech problems and reading to your child makes a huge positive impact on their language development.For some great tips to help with reading to your child visit https://www.booktrust.org.uk/ you can also get a free book!

Nursery Aims for 2019!

Our aims for this year have been taken from our nursery Audits, Our Bristol Standards and Ofsted Report. They are to continue to develop our nursery outdoor area, To develop staff Knowledge and awareness of Language development and personal, social and emotional development through further training and to develop our resources to show more diversity of the community and world.

Staffing

Polly has started her Maternity leave and is planning to be off with her baby girl for nine months before she returns.We wish Polly all the best and we hope little one decides to come out and meet us all very soon.

We have been excited by the return of Emily and Vicky who have returned after Christmas after their maternity leave. Emily and Vicky are job sharing as preschool room lead. Its lovely to have them both back.

We currently have a group of staff updating their level 3 paediatric first aid training and Meg and Chantelle have stormed through their level 2 childcare and have now started their apprenticeship for their level 3.

30 free hours

Please can parents be reminded to renew their dern codes every 3 months. Even if HMRC give you the same code this needs to be given to Sam so she can claim your free hours.

Up and coming Events!

  • January/ February 2019 - Preschool consultations
  • Tuesday 5th February - Chinese New Year. Year of the pig. Dressing up day for the whole nursery as an animal from the Chinese zodiac.
  • Thursday 7th March - World book day - dressing up day for the whole nursery as a character from a book.
  • Week commencing 11th March - Red nose day - Sponsored Event. To be confirmed.
  • Tuesday 26th March - Wear purple and £1 donation for childhood Epilepsy.
  • Monday 1st April - Mothers afternoon tea. To be confirmed.

New Nursery Pets!

We have some new additions to our Chestnuts Family in the preschool and 1-2's. The children have been enjoying looking after our Giant African snails.The children have enjoyed holding them and feeding them strawberries, banana and cucumber.

The children have named the snails in the 1-2's Bill and Ben, the preschool are going to have a vote to name their snails, so watch this space!

Cold Weather

Can I remind parents that we do go out in all weathers , so please make sure that your child is coming into nursery with a winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves.

If children have inhalers then they must be brought in with your child with the prescription label clearly stating the child's name and medication dose.Staff will fill out a long term medication form which parents will need to sign each session.

The winter germs are here! Please can i remind parents to keep their child off nursery for 48 hours after their last bout of sickness or diarrhoea to prevent the spread of illness to other children and our practitioners.

Our Children will be busy this term exploring and finding out about Space, Traditional stories,and Animals. You can help your child at home by reading stories about space, traditional stories, animals, signing nursery rhymes. Visit Sant James City Farm or Over farm market for free!
